Target
Complete cost
Calculate the monthly savings contribution required to reach a dollar target by a specific number of months.
Hold the target and date fixed, then solve for the contribution the remaining cycles require.
Enter your figures, then press “Solve the deadline contribution” to calculate your result.
The calculator holds the amount and number of months fixed, grows the current balance at the entered rate and solves for the equal monthly contribution required to close the remaining gap.
Choose the month when cash may first be required, not the latest date you hope to pay. A home deposit, tuition bill or annual premium can have an administrative deadline before the final event.
Count complete contribution cycles conservatively. If the first transfer cannot happen until next month, do not include the current month simply to reduce the displayed amount.
Include taxes, fees, delivery, setup and a contingency when they are part of the purchase. A precise contribution toward an incomplete target still produces a shortfall.
Use a current written estimate when possible. For a target several years away, test a higher future cost separately instead of assuming savings interest will perfectly offset price growth.
When the contribution does not fit, change the target, time or other priorities openly.

If the required contribution does not fit cash flow, the arithmetic exposes the tradeoff. Increase the time, reduce the target, add a one-time amount or redirect money from a lower-priority goal.
Do not raise the rate assumption merely to make the answer affordable. Use a zero-rate result as a conservative anchor and preserve at least one contribution cycle of timing margin.
The tool cannot spread a remaining gap across monthly contributions. The target must already be funded or the deadline needs at least one contribution cycle.
Use a supportable rate and also run a zero-rate case. For a fixed short deadline, regular contributions usually matter more than a small rate difference.
